You are looking at a beautiful 1940's era Shure Brothers 55 model (1st generation) dynamic cardioid microphone often referred to as the "Fatboy" made famous by several musicians including a young Elvis Presley himself.
This iconic 50's mic is physically in extraordinary condition, barely any sign of use or wear with all of its original sheen. Most importantly, the multi-impedance mic functions in all 3 settings, with strong output gain, and fidelity that is very well-balanced.
They utilized the 55S with the Royal Blue silk screens. If you are looking for a rarer and unique 55S for the mic collection then this one will certainly do. Again, t here was no difference between the 55S and the MC-41 mic.
FINALLY ! PARTS TO REFURBISH ALL SHURE 55 FATBOY MODELS. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING PRIOR TO BIDDING PLEASE LOOK AT “ALL” THE PHOTOS PRIOR TO BIDDING If you are replacing the screens – you have to take the whole thing apart to get it done so you just as well replace the rubber parts, while doing all that work; and before putting it all back together. Let’s face it THEY’RE SHOT! 80 years old and counting. Not only are the wind screens available but also ALL 7 RUBBER MOUNTS.SCREENS ARE AVAILABLE IN JET BLACK, RED AND BLUE. SEE PHOTOS as well as BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS YOU WON’T FIND THESE ANYWHERE ELSE – ONLY HERE. I have spent a lot of money and time designing these and they are: PROPRIETORY MY DESIGNS AND MATERIALS ARE BETTER. Since the ribs on the FATBOY Model 55 are wider than the smaller “S” version, I suggest using the 3M 467MP double-sided adhesive; cut in strips and put on the ribs to install the screens. I have done many of these. That particular adhesive is easier to work with since you can re-adjust the screens. Just don’t press it down hard until you have it where you want it. Just makes for a nicer cleaner job. Otherwise the other glues get on everything and if you have to adjust them, you can still see the glue even if it’s clear; you will see it. Shure now uses glues that are the same color as the screens. Still see it but it’s a lot better. The 3M strips will take a little longer? But no issues and clear double-sided adhesive works on all screens. If your screens are good and you just need the replacement rubber parts please let me know and I will list them but for now I’ll just leave it this way.THESE "WILL FIT" THE LARGE SHURE 55 "LARGE FATBOY" 1939 - 1951 ONLY NOTE:!!!
