Roland MKS-70 OS 1.08 & Module 1.06 EPROM Firmware Upgrade SET This upgrade version consists of the latest known firmware issued by Roland for the MKS-70. Included will be 3 upgrade chips: 1x firmware version 1.08 chip for the assigner board and 2x version 1.06 chips to handle the module boards. All 3 upgrade chips are brand new, recently manufactured by ATMEL to ensure data integrity well past our natural lifetime. Keep in mind that the MKS-70 itself is not for sale, only the EPROM upgrade chips will be supplied. Unlike some others, No used or refurbished as “new” components will be supplied here. Before purchasing, check which firmware your MKS-70 is running: With the MKS-70 turned off, hold VALUE and turn on the unit. The display should now read the currently installed firmware in your unit. Upgrade version 1.08 contains a vast amount of bug fixes as well as new additions, far too many to list below but I’ll make an attempt at listing a some of the noteworthy fixes and additions: Improvement - Improved SysEx commands and overall communication between a Super JX and MIDI devices. Improvement - Channel B can be edited with MIDI SysEx. Fixed – MKS-70 at times will not recognize ALL NOTES OFF message. Fixed - In POLY MODE, when MKS-70 receives KEY OFF EVENT, ALL NOTE OFF, and KEY ON EVENT without a break (with extremely short interval), MKS-70 will sometimes miss a tone. Fixed - Changing modes from Parameter Number 24 [DCO 2 TUNE] to PATCH edit during TONE editing causes the wrong program to run. Improvement - BEND RANGE initialization feature added. This feature enables setting of all patch memory to have BEND RANGE values 2 or 12. This function will overwrite portions of internal memory data: The existing data should be saved on RAM cartridge, as necessary. This initialization does not affect RAM cartridge data. Fixed - Changing MONO/POLY from the MKS-70 or through MIDI sometimes leads to an out-of-tune tone. If requested - A link will be e-mailed to you with the MKS-70 service manual for your own personal reference. I find this to be quite useful and informative. Be sure to take note of the marked orientation notch on the side of the EPROM to ensure correct installation. EPROMS inserted backwards will be destroyed. Incorrect insertion of ICs is also likely to cause damage to the board. All EPROM upgrades have been prepared in an ESD-safe production environment and will be packaged in equally ESD-safe materials.
