This inline preamp runs on 48V phantom power and provides a fixed 28 dB of gain for dynamic and ribbon microphones, courtesy of its ultralow-noise Class A JFet amp. The sound is colored by the nickel core transformer, which adds thickness and warmth, making it well suited for vocals, spoken word, and broadcast applications. Podcast and Voice Recording The FetHead Transformer will get you an instant radio-style voice that works wonders on podcasts and voice-overs. The unit has been extensively tested to provide a highly portable solution that will deliver stellar sound with just a regular dynamic microphone. Get a produced sound within seconds. Transformer Color Many high end studio-grade preamps, compressors, equalizers, and consoles have something in common. They all have transformers in the signal path. These transformers impart a huge sonic footprint on those designs. Audio transformers affect the sound quality because they are non-linear. They add a little harmonic distortion to the signal which our ears perceive as warm and thick. Operation Your FetHead Transformer will latch straight onto any XLR-equipped microphone or anywhere else in the signal path between the microphone and the preamp/mixer. The electronics are housed in a robust metal chassis with a balanced female XLR input and a balanced male XLR output, rugged enough for use at home, in the studio, or on tour. Protects the Microphone Some older ribbon microphones do not tolerate phantom power. The FetHead uses phantom power to power its circuitry but doesn't pass phantom power to the microphone, so rest assured your ribbon mics are safe.
