Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rarer microphone made by Aiwa back in the mid 1950's or early 60's that comes with an original desk stand that compliments the mic nicely, cable in which to operate and original DM-8 box. This unique style of mic was made and sold by a couple Japanese companies at that time as many of the Japanese companies often shared the same design and simply rebadged their microphones. This is an earlier Aiwa model mic from when the company first got started. It should be noted right away that this is a prop, display or repair mic only. It has been tested and the element is no longer working. A replacement element would have this working great again if you have an element to use or are up for the task. This DM-8 is set at high impedance and has a "rockabilly" tone in nature and would be great for certain situations. It's a "general purpose" mic but would be ideal for basic communications such as a HAM radio set up or for vocals where a more blues sound is needed but again, a new element is needed. The microphone itself resembles the classic American E.V 636 in size and shape though the E.V 636 was superior in sound. The DM-8 is arguably more elegant however and it's an all metal design being quite rugged with a nice black painted finish and chrome accented finish. The mic is appx 7 inches long X 1 1/4 inches wide at the tip. The mic is an omni-directional type picking up a bit more back ground noise. Good for recording with a guitar or other instrument. As you can see in the pictures provided the physical appearance is quite nice having small spots of wear. Just a couple very lite scuff marks and tiny scratches and paint chips that are hard to see even up close. The on / off switch works just as it should and the joint mechanism works perfectly as well. The Aiwa badge looks real nice too. The chrome bezel and joint mechanism look fantastic. The blue silk front screen is free of any rips, discoloration or odors. This mic is easily an 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 cosmetically speaking. The mic is lite weight and can be removed form it's joint mechanism via screw if you'd rather hold the mic in your hand and move around. The mic comes with it's original 9 foot cable that has a unique 2 pin type connection that was only used by the Japanese companies. The cable is soft, pliable and 9 feet in length. No physical damage. Works perfectly and it has the standard male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is actually an original Aiwa model that is based on the more expensive and heavier RCA model of that era. This Aiwa model is much lighter but an all metal design that's quite rugged and makes for a very stable platform. The stand is very good overall with typical lite physical wear in the form of small paint chips here and there. The chrome center accent piece looks pretty nice too. It has a stock brown painted base and a nice 4 inch chrome riser. The stand itself is appx 3 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/2 inches wide X 5 inches deep. With the mic on top it raises up to 12 inches in height when fully raised upright. This will make a very nice display / conversation piece. A great piece of Japanese mid-century design that will look great anywhere it sits. As with all my vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid.
