Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a beautiful and highly collectible late 1940's / 50's era Electro Voice V-3 "Velocity" Ribbon microphone that comes with the original longer cable shown. A larger ribbon mic made by E.V and certainly one of the most unique over the decades. It's a bold, aggressive design that was the most expensive in the V series line up. This would make a great addition to any vintage mic collection. An excellent prop or display piece. It should be noted right away that the mic has been tested and no longer works. More on that in a minute. Pic # 2 show the V-2 model sold in the early 1950's along with several other E.V mics models and their basic characteristics. The smaller V-1 measures 6 1/2 inches tall X 2 1/2 inches wide while the V-2 & V-3 is 8 inches tall X 4 inches wide. You'll see in pic # 2 the difference between the earlier V-2 model and the the later V-2 / V-3 model. I believe the early V-2 series mic came out around 1940. My 1945 E.V catalog shows the later V-2 design so the first V-2 was a very short production run and only lasted about 4 or 5 years until the 2nd generation came around. I have always preferred the earlier V-2 as it has a much more elegant look. This V-3 however is the first example I have had to offer in almost 4 years now. They don't pop up very often. The V-3 was actually more desirable than the V-2 due to the fact that it has the dual impedance switch on the rear giving the user the option to use this on both Hi Z and Lo Z audio equipment. Most mics were either just Hi Z or Lo Z so this was a nice option on any mic of that time. This V-3 has been tested and no longer works though the mic is 100% complete inside and out. It still has it's internal components. This will make an ideal candidate for a professional rebuild due to it's unusually nice physical state. I would recommend a company called ENAK based out of New Jersey as their work is quite reasonable and well done. About $450.00 would have this sounding studio ready. I should also state that this mic was serviced at some point by E.V as they replaced the ribbon element and installed a dynamic element in it's place. This was a dirty little secret that E.V didn't publicly disclose but they stopped manufacturing ribbon mics around the mid 1950's and so if a V-1, V-2 or V-3 was brought in for repairs E.V simply replaced it with what they had to work with. I have come across a dozen of these V series mics that have been serviced this way over the years. True story. This mic can always be converted back to a ribbon mic however. This V-3 is a very nice example and probably the nicest I have ever offered. The stock painted metal body shows extremely lite wear as seen in the pictures provided and has been thoroughly cleaned. There are no dents, fractures or engravings on the mic. The E.V label looks pretty damn nice too. The V-2 sits on it's original yoke / swivel and it works nicely allowing just the right amount of tension and desired angle. No pitting on the chrome tightening / thumb screws. Just a couple tiny scratches. Both front and rear chrome screens have zero dents or tarnish. You'll see the element still has it's original silk cover too if you take the front screen off. Cosmetically it's a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. There is a long original 18 foot cable included that has the original male 1/4 inch end connector that you'll need to operate this mic once refurbished. The cable is soft, pliable and in great condition. No dry rot or cracks. Plenty of room to work with. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. The I do have several older stands listed in my online store if you need one for this mic. As with all my other vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period.
