Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a rarer 1940's era Shure Brothers 70SW model "Super Level" crystal microphone. This was a very modern microphone for it's time and you can see the transition with it as the microphone companies began steering away from the spring mics that were so common in the 1920's and 30's. It has the classic "lollipop" design. It has the overall Spring mic design without the springs. It simply screwed onto any stand and has internal rubber shock mounts. It comes with the Nice Shure S-36 model desk stand shown. Pic # 2 is from an old Shure catalog I have showing the mics basic specs. This 70SW mic is in very nice physical condition considering it's age as seen in the pictures provided. The satin chrome body shows just lite signs of wear in the form of fine pitting and scratches but it's been thoroughly been cleaned and the rear Shure label looks pretty darn nice overall. The mic even has all of it's original screws which is a real bonus. The front screen has no dents or tarnish and the inner black cloth pop filter / screen looks great. Overall I would rate this mic an easy 7 on a scale of 1 -10. It should be noted that this microphone is non-working as the original crystal element no longer works though still inside. There is plenty of room to install a new crystal or controlled magnetic element if one chooses to actually use the mic live. The classic model 70SW has some good weight to it and it's measurements are 5 1/2 inches tall X 3 inches wide X 1 1/4 inch deep. It has the built in lower pistol grip that doesn't have a label like all the other Shure mic models because the label is on the rear of the mic. This was how they were sold. Mic is solid with no loose or rattling parts. With the stand included the mic measures 8 inches tall. The stand is a 1950's era Shure Brothers S-36 model microphone desk stand that's in very nice condition and really compliments the 70SW. The S-36 was the most common desk stand sold by Shure from the late 1930's to 1960 and could be used with almost all Shure model microphones utilizing the lower pistol grip. The S-36 is a lite weight design with a low center of gravity and a classic deco look that really compliments any Shure mic you mount on top. The S-36 was an all aluminum body being virtually corrosion proof and comes with a new silver / blue painted finish though I have seen a couple different stock colors from over the years. The stand has the original Shure insignia cap, brass bolt and cable clamp. The 5 rubber pads are original and in excellent shape. This particular S-36 stand has new paint and it shows virtually no wear as seen in the pics provided. Zero dents or corrosion. The aluminum base was sanded, primered, painted and given several coats of clearcoat. It looks similar but unique to the color it originally came in as it has just a hint of light blue and really pops with any chrome mic. I'd rate the true condition an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. Worthy of any older Shure mic you have. If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She'll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. And as always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a unique 1960's era Shure Brothers 55SW model dynamic cardioid microphone made into a custom LED lamp. One of America's most iconic microphones and made famous by several musicians including Elvis Presley. Even the young Fidel Castro preferred using one of these when speaking after the Revolution. Classic, clean deco lines give this mic the attention it deserves. This 55S made it's debut in 1951 and had a run of several years until being discontinued in the late 1970's Shure brought the mic back again due to high demand as the "Super 55" and is still being sold today. A cast zinc body with a glossy satin chrome finish. I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. He has an online store called Luminous Groove. I have several of his lamps at my residence for personal use and have been collecting them for almost 4 years. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product. Sadly, he stopped making these last year due to health problems but I still have several of his examples. All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights. Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. This 55S has the mesh screens but still casts an amazing ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided. This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however. The 55S itself is in excellent physical condition. The ribs are free of any dents or fractures and the satin chrome finish has very lite wear. Zero pitting or scratches. One of the nicest examples I have offered. The Shure badge looks very nice and completely legible. The on / off switch on the mic itself does not operate the light. The switch is on the cable. The threading for the stand was stripped so I installed a 5 inch chrome riser with a chrome adapter so that you may now screw the mic onto any desk or floor stand you have. The riser is well secured and solves that issue. The joint mechanism on this mic has lots of tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the head backwards putting light wherever you need it. A cable connector is attached to the bottom of the mic as if there was a regular cable attached to complete the effect. The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 10. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours. This is an actual early 55SW mic...not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. More like sculptures and one of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody. These are certainly strong enough to read a book next too. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. An I do have several desk and floor stand available in my Ebay store if needed.
